The International terminal at Glasgow airport was this afternoon the target of a fire car attack as Britain braces itself following a series of failed attacks in London, and a suspect bomb at Ibiza airport, a popular British holiday resort.
In today's attack against Glasgow airport a car was driven into the glass framework structure of the international terminal. According to eyewitness accounts the drivers and passengers of the vehicle are said to have been throwing petrol cannisters out the window. After the vehicle crashed against the terminal one of the people in the car was seen ablaze and was quickly assisted by officials, only to see him get up once again and head to the boot of the car before he was arrested.
The vehicle was a Cherokee jeep. All two arrests are known to have been arrested no responsibility for the attack has as yet been made by any terrorist organisation, in a similar way to the London attacks yesterday.
Experts believe that the latest incident suggests the possibility of a wide ranging organised attack against British targets, especially key tourists areas. Glasgow airport would today have seen many British tourists heading out of the UK after schools closed yesterday.
The latest attacks comes just hours after the appointment of Gordon Brown as Prime Minister. Brown is himself Scottish. Whitehall however this evening refused to link the London attacks to the latest attack in Glasgow. No links have also been established between the incident at Ibiza airport today and the atatcks in the UK.
